Similarly, micro/nano-structures on copper and other metals have also been demonstrated1,17,18,19. The role that surface structures play in boiling enhancement has been attributed to a variety of factors, including capillary wicking9,12,13,14,17, increased nucleation site densities9,20, and increased contact line pinning10. Additionally, notable increases in HTC have been reported using embossed copper microstructures with specific contoured shapes1. These complex microscale shapes use evaporation momentum force to promote the separation of liquid and vapor flow paths and enhance micro-convection.

Let me describe what I hear as I sit in a coffee shop writing this article. It’s late morning on a Saturday, between the breakfast and lunch rushes. People talk in hushed voices at tables.
