How well does it work? Given that it’s a very difficult problem to solve, remarkably well. Rain and wetness is an especially difficult issue. The decals are designed by artists on a computer and printed on a single sheet. The decal is removed from the backing just like the decals I used to put on model airplanes when I was a kid — they’re soaked in hot water until the decal comes off.

Boral TruExterior trim comes factory primed, and has a flat surface on one side and a wood-grain pattern on the other. Unlike wood, you don’t need to prime or seal end cuts. You will, however, have to paint it to maintain your warranty. It seems to take paint fine. Boral says to use a high-grade exterior paint, and there are no restrictions on color. My rep said you can paint it black if you want, and it won’t get hot and expand like some products. You don’t need to use adhesives with the product, but if you do want to caulk it, Boral recommends using exterior-grade acrylic caulks and adhesives before you paint.

That morning, Ive told me that, before Jobs replaced Amelio, the studio’s work on an iMac-like device “was of no interest to the company.” The comment was surprising: Ive tends to be strenuously courteous toward his employers. I won’t go into too much detail on the process, but basically, you put your phone into the included plastic frame and make sure it’s free of dust/oil/fingerprints there with the included alcohol pads and microfiber(s). You then prep the display by opening one of two small bottles of adhesive (the second one is there in case you mess up, which I did). After you lay the glass down on the screen, you use the frame’s built-in tilt function and let the adhesive naturally flow to the bottom of the screen. Then, you grab the included UV light and place it over the top and bottom for x amount of seconds.

Cutouts are pretty good – the fingerprint sensor is perfectly accessible, the camera isn’t blocked, and there’s adequate space for a USB-C cable on the bottom as long as it’s not massive. The lip is adequate, though a glass screen protector might end up being thicker than it. The volume buttons are tactile, if a bit too recessed. The power button, however, ruins the whole case for me. UAG chose to put a flap about twice as long as the actual power button, and it’s hinged in the center. That means that you have to press directly on the center of the button to be sure that it’ll turn your screen on and off. Press too far up or down, and the button simply won’t activate unless you push really, really hard. It’s an infuriating design, and I’d say that about 50% of the time I press the power button, I’m greeted with nothing. The case itself is also harder than it should be to install and remove.
