First featured on the Land Rover Discovery, the Advanced Tow Assist function offered on the Range Rover Velar is designed to assist drivers in performing potentially difficult reversing maneuvers with an attached trailer. Instead of steering and counter steering as normal, the driver simply guides the trailer into position using the infotainment system’s rotary controller and the Advanced Tow Assist system calculates all necessary steering inputs2.

Every last detail has been honed in order to let the Range Rover Velar pass through the air with minimal resistance. For example, the ridge on the taillights has been designed to induce clean separation of airflow from the bodysides, which in turn results in a cleaner wake structure and therefore reduces drag. Specially-designed air channels in the rear spoiler both cut drag and the accumulation of dirt on the rear screen.

He added that changes such as these make the garage part of the home’s architecture and add curb appeal and overall salability.

Up to a point, that describes the foundation, with its fetishized lowdown materials like chipboard and orange construction fencing and slightly out-of-the-way location, south of the city’s center.

Since the case is basically a shell, there’s not much to worry about. The buttons are exposed, though they are a little obstructed by the case on the bottom. The cutout for the fingerprint sensor is adequate, as is that of the camera (even if it is shaped a little weirdly). The integrated magnet on the back is cool, though you will need to pay an extra $10 to get the mount from PITAKA. That mount was too large for the air vents in my old BMW, though your mileage will obviously vary. I tried using a run-of-the-mill circular magnetic mount off Amazon, but that didn’t hold it very well for some reason, even though it held my Thin Fit and its magnet just fine. Again, this may not be an issue for you, but it’s important to keep in mind.

I can’t recommend the Defender to the average person due to its many downfalls: excessive bulk, difficult disassembly, pointless port cover, and so on. It’s only in the harshest of conditions where I’d say that all of the Defender’s "features" would come in handy; otherwise, they’re just dead weight. The high price ($60 MSRP for the XL, $36 currently on Amazon) doesn’t help.

As any avid smartphone user will know, it’s getting increasingly difficult to find a glass screen protector that actually sticks to the phone with no issues. The ZAGG InvisibleShield caused terrible screen sensitivity, and I don’t dare touch any of the cheap offerings on eBay. The South Korea-based company uses separate UV-dependent adhesive for its glass protectors, and it works wonders.

The rim of the phone consists of an aluminium framey, with the two volume buttons and the power button on the right. I would have preferred it if we had a rocker instead of two separate buttons for volume, but the existing setup isn’t bad by any means. You also have a headphone jack up top, and a speaker grille at the bottom.
