The Apple Watch—the first Apple device with a design history older than its founder, or its designer—was conceived “close to Steve’s death,” Ive said. It’s hard to build a time line of this or any other Apple creation: the company treats the past, as well as the future, as its intellectual property. But, in 2011, there may have been a greater appetite than usual for investigations of new products. One could imagine that executives were eager to act, in anticipation of grief, market upheaval, and skeptical press. The enhancements shown here have been attributed to the ability of in-plane variations in wall superheat to impart order to the resulting liquid and vapor flows, leading to high HTC and a delay in CHF. By reducing the superheat temperature in the vicinity of the low-conductivity materials, the epoxy divisions suppress nucleation and remain wetted during boiling. While this reduces the local heat transfer rate near the epoxy, it increases the global heat transfer rate over the entire surface by imparting spatial ordering and enhanced bubble dynamics. For this order to be maintained the cold epoxy divisions must remain wetted at all times. Figure 4 shows time-lapse imaging of vapor bubbles undergoing lateral coalescence, and demonstrates the ability of the epoxy divisions to remain wetted during boiling. Here’s the thing: smart lights are fun, and that part doesn’t get talked about enough because then they become frivolous things you have to pay extra for. It’s why I love the Nanoleaf lights so much, there’s no real way to hide the fun parts of these lights. The original Aurora panels are functional, but they’re also just plain cool. And Nanoleaf continued to update them over time to do even better things, like interact with music and be remotely controlled with something other than your phone. I love using them for work, but I love using them even more for fun.

Long story short: the Tough Armor is a great case. It’s virtually flawless aside from the finish getting a little too grimy too quickly. The kickstand is something few other cases have, for whatever reason. The Tough Armor costs $16.99 for the Pixel 2 and $17.99 for the 2 XL. To get the gunmetal finish (I have the black) which I’d imagine would hide fingerprints better, you’ll need to pony up an extra dollar. The price is on the high end for Spigen, but it’s still very reasonable.
