Unfortunately, some TVs(not all, but enough to make shopping for them a bit of a chore) do things that make them serve as poor monitors. The wonders of overscan are, at least mostly, over(as you’d damn well hope when handed one of the digital inputs that even sub $100 trash monitors can interpret without trouble); but weird processing settings designed to make the image look better under the harsh light of Best Buy, wonky EDID, or awful subpixel tricks (RGBW might be a clever exploitation of human luma sensitivity being greater than chroma sensitivity; but it does some awful thing to some not uncommon computer display use cases).

Sharp edges aside, the rest of the case is fantastic. The buttons are tactile and easy to push, which unfortunately can’t be said of every case. Cutouts for the camera and fingerprint sensor are well-done, and the gloss black accents surrounding them are a nice touch. The Caseology logo is small and subtle, and the little feet on all four corners of the back prevent the back from getting scuffed up when you put it down. The inside has an interesting pattern to prevent dust from getting squished and possibly scratching your phone up, which an increasing number of cases have these days. The lip is large enough to clear a glass screen protector.

I won’t go into too much detail on the process, but basically, you put your phone into the included plastic frame and make sure it’s free of dust/oil/fingerprints there with the included alcohol pads and microfiber(s). You then prep the display by opening one of two small bottles of adhesive (the second one is there in case you mess up, which I did). After you lay the glass down on the screen, you use the frame’s built-in tilt function and let the adhesive naturally flow to the bottom of the screen. Then, you grab the included UV light and place it over the top and bottom for x amount of seconds.

Absolutely. The folks at Nanoleaf are doing incredible things, in my opinion. These lights aren’t just clever or cool art installations anymore, they could radically change the way we think about lighting in a bunch of places. I want to cover my ceiling with these lights, and I know so many people who feel the same way. But at the same time, these lights are so. much. fun. to explore when you’re having fun.

I’ll be honest: my first impression of the Exec 2 was not very positive. The case is a lot thicker than most inherently, and the cardholder on the back only makes things much worse in that regard. Plus, the cardholder looks rather cheesy – almost like something a five-year old would think looks ‘cool.’ The leather looks fake (even though it’s supposedly real), there are 12 silver squares on it for visual effect, and the Ghostek branding really shouldn’t be on there.

It’s a curious detail that since the introduction of clean air legislation in the early 1980s, coal fired power stations in Germany have been legally obliged to scrub their smoke of fine dust particles, which are for the most part ash with traces of sulfur. This is done with an electrostatic precipitator (also called an ESP), that charges the particles, and then draws them down so that they heap up in huge hoppers that look like geometric teats. Periodically, semitrailers come and collect the fine dust that has accumulated in the hoppers. Clean, white, and powdery, this dust is sold to manufacturers who turn it into plaster, and then drywall (made of calcium sulfate dihydrate). Even as servers continue to model these spaces in which we will live, the dust rain continues to silently fall. Hundreds of thousands of tons of it, every year. Even as we sit in front of screens, in order to pay for our homes or distract ourselves from them, the dust falls. The more electricity we consume, the cheaper and more widely available drywall is. The thin-walled world that we see around us is a side effect of the electricity that we consume as we produce it, study it, and dwell in it. A polygonal balloon inflated by the light with which we illuminate it. The built environment, when examined via this metabolic material path, is in all earnest a media effect, a strange double to the stucco ornament of the rococo, with its inhuman profusion, its rank fecundity. You are looking through a sequence of photographs. At first, they all look the same. And they seem to show the same thing: nothing. No furniture, no people. You have the feeling you are in a labyrinth. You become disoriented.

Additionally, visualization of the boiling process is conducted using a Phantom V210 high-speed camera (Vision Research) recorded at over 3,000 fps. High-speed imaging is used to visualize bubble dynamics during nucleate boiling at low heat fluxes. At higher fluxes the large production of vapor makes visualization difficult, resulting in no useful information regarding the impact of bi-conductive surface on the boiling process.

“They can be used for workshop space, hobbies and crafts … or more specialized storage,” he said. 

The big rectangular and wedge-shaped galleries, windows alternating between panoramas of the city and narrow views over the campus, accommodate best the large-scale works in the inaugural show, “Atlas.” It features Jeff Koons, Mona Hatoum, Michael Heizer and others.
