Ive manages newness. He helps balance the need to make technological innovations feel approachable, so that they reach a mass market—Choo Choo—with the requirement that they not be ugly and infantile. Apple has made missteps, but the company’s great design secret may be avoiding insult. Antonelli, of MoMA, described Apple’s design thoughtfulness as “a sign of respect,” and added, “Elegance in objects is everybody’s right, and it shouldn’t cost more than ugliness.”
Early acoustics materials focused on absorbing sound—soaking up sonic energy rather than reflecting it. That approach produced its own idiosyncratic soundscape. As the science historian Emily Thompson explains in her book The Soundscape of Modernity, absorptive materials removed reverberation, producing “clear and direct” sound. “In a culture preoccupied with noise and efficiency,” Thompson writes, “reverberation became just another form of noise, an unnecessary sound that was inefficient and best eliminated.”
There are several factors behind Fishtown’s resurgence over the last decade or two. But one factor that Dowdall points to is the uptick of “key developments” that moved into the area, like the neighborhood staple, Johnny Brenda’s, a bar, restaurant, and music venue, that set up shop at the now-popular Frankford Avenue intersection in 2003. Another factor Dowdall notes is Frankford Hall, a German-style beer garden run by Stephen Starr that opened just north of Johnny Brenda’s in 2011.
“We supply a flat surface made of PVC,” he said. “Once that’s up, you can add a variety of things. You can personalize it with baskets, bins, totes, shelves or hooks. You also can update it and modernize it over time."
Every Range Rover Velar is equipped with a responsive and smooth eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with paddle-shift controls. Four-cylinder engines are matched to the 8HP45 transmission, which feature an integral pendulum damper. This device dramatically reduces the booming and vibration typically experienced when running in high gears at low engine speeds, and therefore contributes to a quiet, refined cabin.
Black and Premium exterior packages provide additional visual differentiation. The Black Exterior Package is offered on both core and R-Dynamic derivatives, introducing distinctive Narvik Black to the grille mesh and surround, hood and tailgate lettering, fender vents, tow-eye cover surround and lower bumper blade. For R-Dynamic derivatives, the hood vent blades, bumper aperture inserts and exhaust finishers are also finished in Narvik Black.
Other aspects of the case are great as well. The buttons are very tactile, just as they should be. The cutouts for everything are nothing special, but they’re well-designed and don’t intrude on anything. There’s even a lanyard holder, though nobody outside of Asia uses them and you’ll have to buy it separately. Branding is restricted to some small ‘Ringke’ text on the bottom right of the back. I really don’t have much to complain about here.
"This $5.85 million estate for sale in Sugar Land is frequently compared to a castle, and not for nothing—the three-acre property boasts decidedly castle-like features, not limited to expansive and park-like grounds, courtyards (with stone balustrades), a circular two-story library, another two-story opera room (with a balcony), travertine marble floors in the chef’s kitchen, a wine cellar, a reception hall with a domed ceiling, and—wait for it—an observation deck for views of adjoining Alkire Lake."

The living room is accented with a handsome fireplace and an expansive artist-style window affording views of the rear yard and gardens. The family room lends itself well to spending leisure time and casual entertaining highlighted by a floor to ceiling brick wall with fireplace and built-ins.

The closest I got was in 2008 when I visited MXL Industries, a company in Pennsylvania that makes face shields for Shoei and others. That visit was described in my article “How to Make a Motorcycle Helmet Visor“.
