In its Google Store listing’s photos, the Air Jacket looks pretty sharp. It paints the picture of a barely-there case. It turns out that’s true, but not in a good way. The case is entirely made of polycarbonate, a hard plastic material that is not at all ideal to make an entire case out of. It’s fairly scratch-resistant, but that’s about the only thing going for it. As you might imagine, it’s quite slippery. And given the nature of the material, I honestly think the case could crack/shatter with a hard-enough drop. It also feels like it could pop off, which is never a good feeling. Keep in mind that the bottom of the case is exposed, too, so there’s another potential issue. Oh, and the lip will not save anything.

The results are equally amazing for the lower-end Pentium N4200-equipped version of the L10. It actually beat Xplore’s old high-end B10 in PassMark v6.1, even though that model was based on a genuine, powerful 5th generation Core processor. Later that day, I asked Ive about an Apple design that shares the new campus’s formal simplicity: the circular “hockey puck” mouse that was included with the first iMacs. Many found it hard to control, and it is widely considered a design failure. Ive didn’t accept that description. He referred to different schools of thought about arms, wrists, and mice. “Everything we make I could describe as being partially wrong, because it’s not perfect,” he said, and he described the wave of public complaint that accompanies every release. The material isn’t very stiff, and we usually like to have two guys carry it as it snaps much easier than wood. Because of its flex, I’d be reluctant to use it over the ventilated rainscreen setup I typically use with wood board and batten; I’m not sure it would lie flat over the long haul.
