You can tell that it’s meant for people who just don’t want their phones to get scratched, and not those who work on a construction site. The only question that remains is if sequels will retain the $300 pricing or if they’ll go the OnePlus route and slightly increase the price with each generation. Either way, Pocophone’s very first phone comes in with quite a bang and is possibly the marquee device of the year, not because better options don’t exist, but because none of them shakes up the market quite like the F1 does.

Bi-conductive surfaces were fabricated by embedding lines of a low-conductivity epoxy into a copper substrate. Copper sheets (1 mm thickness) were cut to size and grooves were machined into them using Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM). The EDM wire thickness was 0.254 mm with a reported minimum spark gap of 0.381 mm ± 0.127 mm. The copper was then treated with an alkaline solution to produce an oxide layer with nano-scale surface roughness to promote adhesion between the copper and epoxy14. The surfaces were then coated with a non-conductive high-temperature two-part epoxy (Aremco 526N) filling all of the grooves. The epoxy was cured at 93 °C for 2 hours, followed by 163 °C for 12 hours to achieve a maximum strength bond. After curing, the surfaces were manually sanded with 200 grit sand paper until the bare copper between each epoxy division was exposed. The bare copper surfaces (with no epoxy divisions) were also sanded using the same method. The surfaces were finally cleaned with solvents and dried with N2.

There’s virtually nothing bad about the Fusion. Protection-wise, it excels thanks to its TPU frame. All four corners are concealed, and the lip on the front is enough to clear a glass screen protector. The optional colored frame makes the case look more premium than it really is. The clear back is actually hard plastic, and it avoids the infamous rainbow effect that plagues so many cases here. However, it is a little bit of a fingerprint magnet.

The Legion is a nice case, though I’d personally drop an extra couple buckaroos to get the Spigen Tough Armor for one simple reason: the kickstand. To my eyes, the Legion is actually better-looking, but you can’t beat not having to hold the phone up while watching video. If you don’t mind that and the slightly crude edges, this is still a great buy. Both the Pixel 2 and 2 XL versions come in ‘Warm Gray’ (read: gunmetal), though the Pixel 2 has an exclusive white color and the 2 XL has ‘Copper Gold’ (light pink).

Buttons here are different from those on any other Spigen case. The power button is ridged, keeping it from getting confused with the volume buttons. The volume buttons don’t actually protrude from the body like most do, but because they wrap around the side of the phone, they’re still easy to press and tactile. There’s nothing too noteworthy about the fingerprint sensor and camera cutouts, though the recess for the fingerprint sensor does have a glossy accent.

So instead of using a generic EPS liner in every helmet, Nolan engineers the specific densities, thickness and liner shape based on the helmet type and size.
