If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t drop his phone often and just wants a bit of protection from scratches, the Thin Fit is for you. As you might be able to tell from the name, this is the thinnest case that Spigen offers. It’s practically just a plastic shell, and it doesn’t even have buttons – just cutouts. It offers a little less coverage than I’ve come to expect, even from previous Thin Fits, but it’s still probably one of my favorite cases.

It was a daunting process, but one that Meyers took in stride. Those panic moments—and their sigh-of-relief resolutions—have now become lore, embedded into the brick and concrete and exposed beams of the tap house.

So without further ado, let’s get started on the tour through the Nolan helmet factory. I have included a video also below that illustrates some of the procedures I’ll discuss here.

Later that day, I asked Ive about an Apple design that shares the new campus’s formal simplicity: the circular “hockey puck” mouse that was included with the first iMacs. Many found it hard to control, and it is widely considered a design failure. Ive didn’t accept that description. He referred to different schools of thought about arms, wrists, and mice. “Everything we make I could describe as being partially wrong, because it’s not perfect,” he said, and he described the wave of public complaint that accompanies every release. He went on, “We get to do it again. That’s one of the things Steve and I used to talk about: ‘Isn’t this fantastic? Everything we aren’t happy about, with this, we can try and fix.’ ”

Figure 2 shows representative images extracted from high-speed imaging, showing nucleate boiling on bi-conductive surfaces with various values of N. Complete movies can be found in the supplemental material. All of the surfaces tested exhibited similar incipience temperatures, with the onset of nucleate boiling occurring around ΔT ~ 5–7 K. It can be seen that bubbles form exclusively on the copper regions, with the low-temperature epoxy divisions suppressing the nucleation process as expected. More importantly, the epoxy divisions remain wetted at all times and resist the lateral motion of bubbles across them. This allows for the formation of ordered pathways for liquid return above the cold epoxy divisions. Figure 3 shows the measured boiling curves, and heat transfer coefficient as a function of superheat for each surface tested. The bare copper surface reached a CHF of ~116 W/cm2 with a maximum HTC of ~70 kW/m2K. This closely matches the results from various other researchers, demonstrating the accuracy of the experimental apparatus1,11,20. Substantial increases in boiling performance can be seen for nearly all of the bi-conductive surfaces as compared to bare copper. At moderate superheats (ΔT = 10–11 K), an increase in heat flux and heat transfer coefficient of greater than 5x has been demonstrated using bi-conductive surfaces with a pitch of P = 2.33 mm (N = 4 cm−1). While the incipience temperature does not vary substantially for any of the surfaces tested, heat transfer is increased due to enhanced bubble dynamics on the bi-conductive surfaces. This demonstrates that the addition of epoxy does not enhance HTC by promoting nucleation at lower superheats, as shown for structured surfaces and surfaces with mixed wettability1,9,11,20,22,23,25.
