The Honor 8C isn’t a bad smartphone; none of Honor’s (and by extension, Huawei’s) smartphones are. It looks funky, has a lightweight yet sturdy build quality, and the battery life is awesome. But when you factor in disadvantages like underwhelming cameras and a frustrating software experience, the overall package becomes far less appealing.

By all definitions, MNML has produced a case, though it honestly feels more like a skin. It’s superbly minimalistic, but that means that it’s also not very protective. This won’t save your phone against anything other than scratches. It’s priced at $24.99 usually, though I can’t tell if that’s an artificial MSRP as I’ve only ever seen it at $14.99. That’s a pretty good price for the unique product that you get. It comes in five colors, all of which look pretty good: Clear Black, Clear White, Matte Black, Really Blue (a nod to Google’s naming), and Red.

While I tried to stick with Xiaomi’s offerings for the purposes of this review, it became simply impossible to do so when, for example, I needed to access the photos synced to my Google account. You may not be able to delete Xiaomi’s apps, but if you are already invested in Google’s ecosystem, it’s also not particularly difficult to just keep on doing what you’re doing. You’ll just have to go through a ton of clicks and confirmations to change your defaults; boy, Xiaomi really doesn’t want you to change those.

Add all of that up, and you’ve got a well-rounded smartphone that feels sluggish way more often than it should. The Honor 8C comes with Android Oreo out-of-the-box, and I’m not sure if Android Pie (with EMUI 9.0) will make things better for this smartphone, whenever that update arrives. As it stands, this is not the smartphone for users who value a good software experience. All said and done, EMUI does have a few useful features like one-key navigation, and the face unlock works quite well too.

It was the spaciousness and layout of the home that attracted the owners to the home when they first purchased it. Generously proportioned rooms are graced with hardwood floors, crown moldings and an abundance of windows that fill the space with light and take in the beauty of the natural backdrop.
