I liked the implementation Xiaomi has gone with – which is a lot more like what you’d find on an iPhone – in comparison to Google’s setup, but one gripe I had was with the ‘back’ gesture. That’s triggered by swiping in from either edge of the screen. Since Android apps more often than not hide a hamburger menu and require you to pull it out from the left side of the screen, you’ll find yourself going back instead of pulling out the menu more often than not. The same is true when you’re trying to swipe away notifications and instead end up closing the notification pane. To avoid that, Xiaomi reserves the lower half of the screen for the back gesture and the top half for the app but on a screen as large as this, it’s rather hard to successfully pull it off every time. As bezel-less displays become more common in the Android space, I really hope that either the app ecosystem will evolve vis a vis hamburger menus or that Xiaomi and others will be able to find a better implementation for gestures.

As for materials, the L10 platform has a polycarbonate plastic housing with elastomer edge and corner protection over an internal magnesium alloy frame. It makes for an elegant and distinctive look that’s purposeful, functional, and ergonomic.

Since then, Pearlman argues, restaurants have become more and more casual, severing the link between luxurious interiors and highbrow taste. It started in the mid-1970s, when highly rated restaurants began to integrate lowbrow influences such as country-farmhouse decor, along with the atmosphere and casual serving styles of cafés and brasseries. Pearlman traces the origin of highbrow minimalism to the restaurant Michael’s, which opened in Santa Monica, California, in 1979. Driver Condition Monitoring2 measures steering inputs, throttle and brake application and analyzes lane departure and the driver’s use of direction indicators. If the system’s algorithms determine from the data that the driver is drowsy – for example from periods of no steering followed by sudden, sharp inputs – a coffee cup symbol is shown in the instrument cluster to encourage them to take a break.

It’s not difficult to imagine a workspace where Canvas has effectively replaced the traditional ceiling tube lights.

The case’s overall quality is very impressive. Carving a case out of a single block of wood is no easy task, and the result is an expensive-feeling finished product. The wood is completely smooth to the touch, and there’s zero chance that it’ll give you splinters. That might sound silly, but the Moment case’s wood isn’t nearly as smooth and, consequently, it’s a little less confidence-inspiring in that regard. I did notice one corner where the wood maybe wasn’t as well-sanded down as it could have been, but it’s not at all noticeable in use. The cutouts are adequately-sized and line up perfectly, which I had some worries about on a wooden case.
