The two touchscreens are complemented by two tactile rotary controllers. These are reconfigurable to enable them to perform several functions, such as adjusting cabin air temperature, massage seat settings or the Terrain Response mode. Between them is a smaller dial for controlling the audio system.

This work has shown that by imparting in-plane variations in surface temperature onto flat surfaces using low-conductivity materials, extreme increases in pool boiling heat transfer can be achieved. By tuning the wavelength of these variations to coincide with the capillary length of the fluid, a resonance-like enhancement effect is seen leading to a greater than 5x improvement in heat transfer rate at moderate superheats. The counterintuitive result by which heat transfer is increased with the addition of non-conductive materials is shown to be a product of the resulting flow field near the surface. By using temperature gradients to order the location of nucleation sites, as well as promote the formation of distinct pathways for liquid and vapor flows, HTC has been increased from 41 kW/m2K to 210 kW/m2K (at ΔT = 11 K) and CHF has been increased from 116 W/cm2 to 230 W/cm2. The principle of tailoring flow fields through variations in local surface temperature represents a novel and potentially transformative tool for the enhancement of boiling heat transfer in next-generation high heat flux applications. Bi-conductive surfaces not only produce substantial increases in performance (>5x increase in HTC shown here), but are also cheaply manufactured using traditional methods, scalable to large areas and various material, and do not contain fragile surface structures or thin coatings. As a result they are easily implementable and naturally insensitive to the degradation, mechanical failure, and fouling associated with other boiling enhancement approaches.

Markings on the Photo Case are very subtle. There’s some small ‘Moment’ branding next to the camera, a little indicator on the side of the case to aid with lens installation, and a bit of tasteful ‘Long live the picture taker’ text carved into the wood piece. There are two thin holes for a lanyard on the bottom, which is, unfortunately, exposed. So try not to drop your phone with this case on. The buttons are a little bit hard to find since they’re not significantly raised. They’re also a bit spongy, so they’re definitely not my favorite buttons, but they’re serviceable. The lip on the front will not clear a glass screen protector, as I learned the hard way.

Evidently, Nolan has a very good PR Dept. However, in the real world there are still quality problems with some Nolan helmets. My N104 Evo started to develop small chips almost immediately. At first, I thought I was not being careful enough. Now, the paint is simply flaking off. There is almost no bond between the paint and the polycarbonate. It was a beautiful helmet, but now looks like it has been used as a soccer ball. The US importer is about as useful as tits on a boar hog. Nolan needs to look into this. They are getting a bad reputation among my friends.

When CIMA International, the U.S. importer and service center for Nolan Helmets in the U.S.A., asked if I’d like a personal tour of the Nolan helmet factory while I was in Milano for the EICMA show, I naturally jumped at the chance.

The Oh Joy! x Incipio case features a harder level of TPU than most clear cases. It’s still shock-absorbent and flexible, but it feels a lot more rigid in the hand. It also seems like it gets rid of the rainbow effect, which most manufacturers usually just get around with a hard plastic back. Incipio also claims that the back is scratch-resistant, which I didn’t really find to be true. Even pressing your fingernail too hard will leave a permanent mark, and keys will leave marks at almost any pressure. That being said, the clear back hides scratches fairly well, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
