It gets worse when you put the case on your phone. There are no buttons, only cutouts. This is fine when executed properly, like on the Spigen Thin Fit, but Bellroy has made the phone’s buttons a royal pain to use by literally just putting holes where the buttons on the phone are. Additionally, the case itself feels like it has to stretch to actually fit the phone. Again, not confidence-inspiring. From what I can tell, the only aspect of this case that can be considered ‘premium’ is the microfiber lining inside, but that’s minuscule in the grand scheme of things.

Oh, and that plastic looks quite good too! Our ‘Aurora Blue’ color variant had a hybrid matte-glossy finish, with vertical streaks of light moving horizontally across the back panel when the smartphone was moved under a source of light. As eye-catching as this finish makes the 8C, it unfortunately also makes the smartphone catch a lot of smudges and fingerprints. If you don’t want that, I suggest you slap on the TPU clear case that comes in the box.

Spyder’s PowerShadow comes pre-juiced, and has a USB port for charging, an on-off button to let the user control the power, and works with an optional docking station for charging and syncing. For you germophobes, Spyder applied an antimicrobial and fungistatic seal over the case, keeping it clean and green.
