When you label a case ‘Tough Armor,’ you set some pretty high expectations. Luckily, as the beefiest case Spigen produces, it does live up to that name. The Tough Armor for the Pixel 2 definitely lives up to its name, both in terms of protection and aesthetics. Plus, that kickstand is incredibly useful.

The clear back – or more accurately, the clear layer – is surrounded by a plastic frame. This is made out of soft-touch plastic, which actually feels awesome in the hand. It’s a shame that this is ruined by two more instances of branding (kind of excessive), as well as another set of horrible buttons like we saw on the Atomic. These aren’t as bad since they don’t jab you, but they’re still much harder to press than they should be. The power button in particular takes a metric buttload of force to push down. I don’t know how anyone could green-light them.

Coupe-inspired premium crossovers aim for a suave appearance, but the design often ends up looking awkward by trying too hard to mix utility with the sweeping rear of a true two-door. However, Land Rover’s new 2018 Range Rover Velar proves that fabulous styling is possible in the segment. The new vehicle will make a big premiere at the Geneva Motor Show and will also be on display in April at the New York Auto Show. Sales in the United States will start this summer.

These enhancement techniques rely on surface properties and interfacial phenomena, which are inherently susceptible to degradation. Here we report the enhancement of CHF and HTC using surfaces with in-plane variations in substrate thermal conductivity. These “bi-conductive” surfaces are comprised of rows of low-conductivity epoxy embedded into high-conductivity copper substrates, and therefore rely on bulk properties rather than surface properties to enhance boiling. They create spatial variations in the surface temperature during boiling, and by tuning the wavelength of these variations to coincide with the capillary length, have shown increases in HTC and CHF of greater than a factor 5x and 2x, respectively. These counterintuitive results are explained by an examination of the resulting liquid and vapor flow fields, as well as enhanced bubble dynamics. This novel enhancement mechanism has not yet been observed or studied, and holds the potential for creating robust and reliable surfaces for high-efficiency and high heat flux boiling applications over long lifetimes.

Recommendation: Buy it if you don’t need much protection (or you’re willing to buy a case to go over it).

Beyond the cost in dollars, diners also pay this price in other ways. Noise levels such as the ones I recorded are linked to unhealthy food choices and excessive alcohol consumption, for one. By monitoring road markings and the driver’s use of the indicators, these systems are designed to help to prevent the driver from drifting out of lane: LDW can issue a haptic warning though the steering wheel, while LKA goes further and is designed to apply a small amount of counter-steering to keep the vehicle in its lane. The steering torque can be easily overcome by the driver if required2.
