As a case, the Live Case is above average. The dual-layer design is very nicely integrated, providing a nice two-tone look and a slim profile while still giving you two layers between your phone and wherever it ends up falling. The buttons are tactile, though they could stand to protrude from the case a bit more. The cutouts for the camera and fingerprint sensor are both pretty standard, and the one for the USB Type-C port is a little wider than other cases’. The lip up front is very minimal, so if you have a screen protector of any kind, it’ll scrape when the phone is put face-down. There’s a small ‘G’ embedded into the back of the case, just in case you forget what company made the case.

The enhancements shown here have been attributed to the ability of in-plane variations in wall superheat to impart order to the resulting liquid and vapor flows, leading to high HTC and a delay in CHF. By reducing the superheat temperature in the vicinity of the low-conductivity materials, the epoxy divisions suppress nucleation and remain wetted during boiling. While this reduces the local heat transfer rate near the epoxy, it increases the global heat transfer rate over the entire surface by imparting spatial ordering and enhanced bubble dynamics. For this order to be maintained the cold epoxy divisions must remain wetted at all times. Figure 4 shows time-lapse imaging of vapor bubbles undergoing lateral coalescence, and demonstrates the ability of the epoxy divisions to remain wetted during boiling. WASHINGTON — Members of a special joint committee tasked with recommending ways to overhaul spending practices say Congress’ current budgeting system is broken, but they aren’t ready to recommend any steps to improve matters.

One of the advantages of a molded polycarbonate shell is that all of the vent openings, the eye port and various assembly holes needed for mounting the face shield and other parts are completed and finished as part of the molding process.

We report the counterintuitive mechanism of increasing boiling heat transfer by incorporating low-conductivity materials at the interface between the surface and fluid. By embedding an array of non-conductive lines into a high-conductivity substrate, in-plane variations in the local surface temperature are created. During boiling the surface temperature varies spatially across the substrate, alternating between high and low values, and promotes the organization of distinct liquid and vapor flows. By systematically tuning the peak-to-peak wavelength of this spatial temperature variation, a resonance-like effect is seen at a value equal to the capillary length of the fluid. Replacing ~18% of the surface with a non-conductive epoxy results in a greater than 5x increase in heat transfer rate at a given superheat temperature. This drastic and counterintuitive increase is shown to be due to optimized bubble dynamics, where ordered pathways allow for efficient removal of vapor and the return of replenishing liquid. The use of engineered thermal gradients represents a potentially disruptive approach to create high-efficiency and high-heat-flux boiling surfaces which are naturally insensitive to fouling and degradation as compared to other approaches.
